And the flies met some fish

I had about 20 minutes this morning before work to try out one of my new patterns I tied last night.  It was a little gusty this morning with 20mph winds but my first cast confirmed two things:  fish are still in the pond and are eating and my fly is effective.  I guess that's three things, but who's counting?
This is what I started with:

First cast:

Subsequent casts:

I was extremely pleased with the results (the fly didn't even fall apart!) and am excited to tie up some more.

  1. Awesome! Isn't it a great feeling to catch something on your own creation? Love those rubber legs - smallies and bream can't resist.

  2. Chris those are some super nice gills on some great looking flies. Now all you have to remember is not get some involved in the tying that it interferes with your fishing. So all the fish were caught underneath and not on top? Great catch for a short period of time this time of the year.

  3. Ron - yeah it is a great feeling! Kinda like being accepted into a new club or something with with fish saying they like you.
Bill - Thanks! I'm going to have to remind myself of that for sure! Yes all the fish were caught about 3' below surface in about 6-8' of water (that's an estimate). I was a bit surprised at catching them as well.
